Many often question the pure passion of young degree-earning scholars exiting top tier institutions to fearlessly pursue a dream that boldly cuts away from corporate careers and manuevers far beyond most expected elevations–However, as each moment is a privilege and we each are granted only one life to chase our visions– the hustle is always now or never.

For Northwest born and Cali-crafted Street Skater/Entrepreneur Bobby Bonaparte— a distinguished Liberal Arts Degree from Occidental College in Los Angeles provides an incredibly reliable grounding to land firm upon in the unlikely case his steady grind falls from the highlife–though those odds are less than likely.

Beginning in the early years of Bobby’s college career, he followed his artistic talents and launched SkateLift Clothing (which he independently designed & printed from home)  ignited a later inspiration to unite a gifted collective of local scaters and establish the SKATE LIFT–his growing group of trick-heavy skatekids who can be seen skying over steep staircases and park benches throughout Sunny Southern California.

Kingdom Come: Kanye West–POWER [Video]

In Kanye West’s new video “Power,” directed by artist Marco Brambilla, the rapper aims to make an artwork come to life. “It’s not a video .. It’s a moving Painting!!!” Kanye tweeted about an hour ago.

The clip begins with an up-close shot of Kanye West and pans out to reveal a neoclassical living portrait of the rapper surrounded by supernatural figures from various historical eras, including horned women, winged women and dudes with swords. The clip has the feel of a slow-motion Roman orgy, with West being the Caesar at the center. And then, 90 seconds into the song, that’s it. Painting gone. You have to hope there will be an extended version to see soon.

Brambilla is an Italian-born Canadian artist who received wide acclaim for his 2009 video installation “Civilization.” (He also incongruously directed the 1993 action movie “Demolition Man” starring Sylvester Stallone and Wesley Snipes. I guess an artist has to eat.) A major retrospective of Brambilla’s work is scheduled for display at the Santa Monica Museum of Art in 2011.

West has worked with other top-tier visual artists in the past, including Japanese artist Takashi Murakami, who designed the artwork for his album “Graduation.”

The new video reportedly drew on Michelangelo’s frescos for inspiration. But surely if the painter of the Sistine Chapel had done this music video, it would have been much longer.

Work Of Art: The Last Decade–Andy Warhol Exhibit [Brooklyn Museum]

Brilliance— The passion, power and personality felt escaping the radiant hues and complex concepts collaged across the canvases paraded by Avant Garde-inspired artist Andy Warhol solidify statements of evolution, creative escape, subconscious questioning, and the truth that what is natural is spiritual–having the ability to transform into organic images of beauty while remaining an honest reflection of self, feeling, and perception.

A legacy of glamorized commercial success–crafting the artistry for many major advertising campaigns,  including his acclaimed Campbell’s Soup image–smoothly segwayed into an exploration of abstract art–Life-sized canvases aligned to portray various identities of one image to Basquiat accompanied political portraits layered in message and style–eventually inspiring Interview Magazine and his self-hosted television series. His influence to the intellectual understanding of artistry is among the greats and his brand carries a reveranced title of risk, reward, and revolution.

Andy Warhol: The Last Decade is the first U.S. museum survey to examine the late work of American artist Andy Warhol (1928–1987). Encompassing nearly fifty works, the exhibition reveals the artist’s vitality, energy, and renewed spirit of experimentation. During this time Warhol produced more works, in a considerable number of series and on a vastly larger scale, than at any other point in his forty-year career. It was a decade of great artistic development for him, during which a dramatic transformation of his style took place alongside the introduction of new techniques.

Warhol continued to expand upon his artistic and business ventures with commissioned portraits, print series, television productions, and fashion projects, but he also reengaged with painting. In the late 1970s, he developed a new interest in abstraction, first with his Oxidations and Shadows series and later with his Yarn, Rorschach, and Camouflage paintings. His return to the hand-painted image in the 1980s was inspired by collaborations with Jean-Michel Basquiat, Francesco Clemente, and Keith Haring. The exhibition concludes with Warhol’s variations on Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper, one of the largest series of his career. Together, these works provide an important framework for understanding Warhol’s late career by showing how he simultaneously incorporated the screened image and pursued a reinvention of painting.

Andy Warhol: The Last Decade is organized by the Milwaukee Art Museum. The exhibition was curated by Joseph D. Ketner II, Henry and Lois Foster Chair of Contemporary Art, Emerson College, Boston. The Brooklyn Museum presentation is organized by Sharon Matt Atkins, Associate Curator of Exhibitions, Brooklyn Museum. A catalogue published by Prestel accompanies this exhibition.

Action Packed: AT&T Reports 3.2 Million iPhone Activations in 2nd Quarter 2010

AT&T released its second quarter earnings earlier this morning, reporting an increase in consolidated revenues and improved margins.

What caught my eye is this little nugget of information: the carrier activated 3.2 million iPhones last quarter, a record for the company.

Approximately 27 percent of those activations were for customers who were new to AT&T, the company added in the statement.

Last Monday, Apple reported earnings for the quarter, obliterating all estimates. The company said it sold 8.4 million iPhones, and Apple COO Tim Cook at the end of the call said demand for the iPhone 4 was stunning, and that they are selling their latest smartphone as fast as they can produce them.

At last week’s press conference about Antennagate, CEO Steve Jobs kicked off the event by touting sales numbers for the iPhone 4, saying Apple had sold more than 3 million of them in the first 3 weeks on sale.

Furthermore, more than half of those were sold in the first 3 days. You can read self-proclaimed iPhone lover MG Siegler’s review here, by the way.

AT&T backs up those high sales claims for the product, saying preorder sales of iPhone 4 were 10 times higher than the first day of preordering for iPhone 3GS a year earlier.

Can you imagine the phone hasn’t even been on the market for longer than a month?

It’s still only available in black for crying out loud.
